The second republic under the leadership of His Excellence the President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa aims to be food secure by the year 2025. The Government continues to play a key role in assisting farmers through the provision of inputs, equipment and markets. This is done under various schemes launched for the benefit of the farmer. Schemes such as Pfumvudza/ Intwasa, National Enhanced Agricultural Production Scheme (Formerly Command Agriculture) have since shown positive results in the agricultural sector. Agriculture is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy and will continue to be so in the foreseeable future. The Government is alert to threats posed by climate change, droughts, and diseases to both humans and livestock. Efforts to combat climate change and introduce climate proofing are already underway. The Government aims to produce enough wheat for the economy including manufacturing enough inputs and providing required mechanized implements to achieve this.
